What is a Doula?
The word Doula comes from the Greek, meaning "woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained, certified, experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before,  during and after birth.

Studies have shown that when a Doula attends a labour and birth, labours are shorter with fewer complications and a reduced need for medication to strengthen contractions. Women report experiencing lower levels of pain, resulting in less pain medication being needed. Babies are less likely to experience distress during birth and breastfeed more readily.
